Master violinist and teacher

Edmund Reid

Jamaican-born Edmund Reid is currently Co-Leader of English National Opera. He has previously been Co-Leader of Welsh National Opera and Principal at the Royal Opera. For many years he has free-lanced with the LSO, LPO and RPO. Edmund Reid has given many violin recitals at Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall. A sought-after teacher, he has given Master classes at the Calcutta School of Music. On his most recent recital tour of the Subcontinent he officiated at the first All-India Violin Competition.

Is one of the leading violin teachers in the UK, with studios in Sutton,Milton Keynes and Central London. He studied with the Russian pedagogue Sascha Lasserson, himself a pupil of the great Leopold Auer (teacher of Heifetz, Milstein etc.)

Although steeped in the Russian school where beautiful sound and elegant bowing are pre-eminent, Jamaican born Edmund Reid also brings to his teaching some of his own original ideas gained through his vast experience as an Orchestral Principal and Soloist.

He has given Masterclasses as far afield as India. On his most recent visit to the Sub-continent,he officiated at the first All-India Violin Competition as well as performing Recitals throughout India.

Mr.Reid is currently Leader and Coach of the REHEARSAL ORCHESTRA, a training orchestra for young professionals.He has held front-desk positions at the Royal Opera House, ENO, and WNO and has free-lanced with the LSO and other leading ensembles.

For many years Edmund Reid performed with the distinguished pianist Gretta Barrow as VIRTUOSO DUO giving many recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall,as well as touring. Their critically acclaimed LP VIRTUOSO DUOS included "Legend" by Havergal Brian.
